The Struggle To Be Free: My Story and Your Story is
a richly rewarding book in which this renowned counselor and
teacher tells of his own life struggles to overcome threats and
handicaps in order to be free “to put into action what God has destined
that I be and become.” At the same time he leads readers
to understand the spiritual dimensions of their own lives so
they can set themselves free from poverty, feelings of inferiority,
regimentation, loneliness, helplessness, and compulsive work.
In
this warm, compassionate autobiography that is brimming with
wisdom, Wayne Oates demonstrates that life is indeed worth the
battle. This revised edition contains two new, recently written
chapters, "The Struggle To Be Free From Bureaucracy" and "The
Struggle To Define Our Destiny," to bring his story up to
date.
Wayne
Oates authored 58 books during his lifetime,
many of which are recognized as significant contributions
to the literature in the fields of psychology
of religion, pastoral care, and pastoral counseling.
Several of these, including The Christian
Pastor, remain in print with the original
publishers. Many, however, have gone out of print.
Through the Wayne E. Oates Library Collection
the Oates Institute is republishing the
out-of-print works so they will remain available
to congregational leaders and pastoral care and
counseling practitioners.
