Memorial Service Announcement
Dr. Wayne E. Oates died last night, October 21st, 1999, after a little over a week at Baptist Hospital East. This marks the passing of an era in the field of Psychology of Religion, and in the movements of pastoral care and counseling. Gratefully, there are those with torches that remain bright (many, first lit by Dr. Oates) and those torches will continue to shine light into dark places.
There will be visitation with the Oates family at Pearson Funeral Home in Louisville, Kentucky on Sunday, October 24, 1999. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, October 25th, 4:00 p.m. at Saint Matthews Baptist Church in Louisville.
If you would like to reflect more on the life and contribution of Wayne Oates you may go to the memorial page that we have created within the Oates Institute Online by going to: http://www.oates.org/legacy on the World Wide Web. For those who are willing, I invite you to share your Wayne Oates stories. Stories of: shared experiences, lessons taught, humorous occasions, first meetings, and things you hope to never forget. If you give us permission, we want to post these stories at the Oates site for all to enjoy and remember. You may email these to me at vicki@oates.org.
The Wayne E. Oates Institute is one of the torches that will remain bright as we promote an interdisciplinary dialogue among the medical, religious, social work, and therapeutic communities. This trust in collaborative compassionate care flows deeply out of the Oates tradition. The Oates' family has requested that any memorial gifts be given to continue the work of the Wayne E. Oates Institute.
If you have questions feel free to call the Institute at (502) 459-2370 or email me vicki@oates.org.
Faithfully,
Vicki L. Hollon
