Dr. Wayne E. Oates: A Living Legacy

JUNE 24, 1917 - OCTOBER 21, 1999

Dr. Wayne E. Oates

Memories of Dr. Oates

from Betty Cook

I called Dr. Oates on behalf of a friend whose daughter had received an alarming word about their father's death in another city. Although he did not know this family he recognized the cry for help and agreed to see them. As always his words, his manner and his very presence was able to bring comfort and encouragement.

We, of Crescent Hill Baptist Church, had our first Retreat at Earlham College many years ago. It was a wonderful time of sharing, learning and trying to find our way to becoming better followers of Christ. The speaker at the Sunday service was Dr. Wayne Oates. We learned that he came there so often they called him "Quaker Oates."
