Greetings from NYC! We received word from Leigh Conver about Dr. Oates' death.

We remember him lovingly, and are sad and grieve for his death but praise God for his life. He ministered to one of our sons when he faced vocation choices and we will be eternally grateful for that.

My first encounter with him was as a student at SWBTS when he delivered a series of lectures in the 1970s. His words and his demeanor were inspiring and instructing. Later, when I had the privilege of meeting personally as a colleague at SBTS, he always had an encouraging word of wisdom and grace.

I pray that the Oates Institute will continue his legacy of holistic Christianity!
