Dr. Wayne E. Oates: A Living Legacy

JUNE 24, 1917 - OCTOBER 21, 1999

Dr. Wayne E. Oates

Wayne Oates memory

from Gordon Allaby Moundridge, Kansas

I was a student of Dr. Oates at SBTS in 1988, and greatly appreciated his passion and wisdom that he generously shared. However, I was deeply moved by his intimate compassion as the following reveals.

In 1991, just as I was about to graduate my wife left me and my teenage daughter. In my chaos and despair I called Dr. Oates for help, not pausing to think that he was too busy or too important for me. I called him a number of times, even at home, and my calls were received as if he were waiting for them and had nothing more important to do that reach out and help me during a difficult time. His advice was excellent. His love and compassion were beyond this world.

I will always remember him. He cared when my world seemed to be falling apart.

Thanks Wayne.
