Memories of Dr. Oates
from Jacob Wishnia, R.Ph.
In the Jewish faith, one word of the Yiddish language truly describes Dr. Oates: he truly was a "mensch," a perfect gentleman in every way. He had the magic of making old and young feel good and important.
One day as Mrs. Oates was picking up his prescriptions on their way home from the hospital, I happened to say I was sorry to hear Dr. Oates had been in the hospital and hoped he would continue to get well, and call me if there were any questions about his medicine. Before I knew it here comes Dr. Oates out of the car, with his cane, just to shake my hand and thank me for the well wishes and being concerned. Amazing, this just does not happen very often. I am happy to have been his pharmacist.
