Dr. Allan JosephsonDr. Allan Josephson has been named the 2009 recipient of the Oates Award. Allan Josephson serves in Louisville, Kentucky as the Chief Executive Officer of the Bingham Child Guidance Center, Professor and Associate Chair for Child and Adolescent Programs, and Division Director of Child, Adolescent and Family Psychiatry at University of Louisville School of Medicine.

Dr. Josephson is a prolific writer in his professional discipline and has taught and spoken to many national organizations, schools, community agencies, churches, and media on subjects related to child, adolescent and family mental health, religion, and spirituality.


In addition, Dr. Josephson has met the Oates Award criteria through his faithful service on Christian Education, Marriage Enrichment, and  Counseling committees in the various congregations where he has lived.

Through education, writing, speaking, and the creation of new programs, Allan Josephson has demonstrated longevity, excellence and faithfulness to individuals, institutions, faith groups and professional organizations; including the demonstration of personal integrity.

Dr. Josephson and his wife, Jerral, have three children, Sarah, Matthew, and Rachel.

The Wayne Oates Award was established in 1989 to honor Dr. Wayne E. Oates.  Dr. Allan Josephson, will speak and be honored at the Wayne E. Oates Institute’s Annual Forum and Oates Award Dinner on Thursday evening, October 8, 2009 in Louisville, Kentucky.
