I see
this form of continuing education as a life-line for rural clergy who
are hungry to grow and stay current.
One
can easily be lulled into a view that all healthcare facilities
and their values are the same and
that is not true as I learned. I definitely felt challenged in
my perspective. It was transformative.
Through
The Wayne Oates Institute I held a wonderful First-Year-Ministers'
Seminar for 20-30 people. It was our
first time doing an online CE event. It lasted 12
days with continuing email conversations following. I saved almost
$8,000 in my budget, and the ministers each saved another several
hundred dollars.
My motivation was to be able to respond to some
real issues occurring in my congregation.
The online format gave me an opportunity to do
so at a low cost without travel. I came to the seminar out of a
heartfelt need. The content matched a life situation. I do sincerely
believe it was an answer to prayer.
I really
appreciated the articles and the discussion here, and
I must say that it was very helpful for me! Thanks!
I found
the articles stimulating, yet just as stimulating or more so, was
the shape of dialogue via this distant learning mode.
I think
these sessions have reaffirmed for me just how hopeful and
active we as chaplains and clergy need to be to push the health
care field along… so that "the
Whole Person" is considered.
I felt free to consider, interact and make application
to me, personally, and to my work role.
This
workshop became very personal as I looked at how I work in
light of caring for my health and well-being.
This one [seminar] was so very timely, one of
those providential things. I needed the CEUs but more importantly,
I needed the reminders in this seminar. I am already seeing the
benefits.
By
reading the articles first, and then reading others’ views
and experiences, it
opened me to see my experiences with different eyes.
The
anonymity of the internet always contributes to creating a
safe environment… people
seemed open to write about and "listen" to
a variety of thoughts, experiences and ideas.
It
was helpful to hear from a diverse group of people--theologically,
geographically… and
to reflect on their contributions.
