With the leadership of Dr. James Hyde and a small group of professionals touched by the life of Wayne Oates, the Wayne E. Oates Institute was incorporated in 1993 in order to carry forward the heritage embodied in Wayne Oates' life and ministry.

In a day when professional, organizational, and religious boundaries are being redrawn, the Oates Institute provides a safe space where those from religious, health care, social work, and various therapeutic perspectives may learn from each other through dialogue and educational opportunities that promote collaborative, compassionate and comprehensive care.

As society recognizes the fragmentation of care for the body, mind, and spirit there is an increased need for Integrative Care that combines the perspectives of the various disciplines and recognizes the importance of addressing spiritual needs in the care of the whole person. We celebrate the uniqueness of the Oates Institute as it advances understanding of the relationship between mind, body, and spirit and the dynamics that support health and healing. The service areas of the Institute are: education, publication, and research.
