The Health Ministries
movement has been energized by several dynamics: nurses
who have a passion and calling to care for others out
of the context of their faith commitments; the tremendous
demographic shift occurring as a result of aging baby
boomers, and what seems to be the movement of God’s
spirit seeking to give shape at a time when old structures
are not adequately supporting the health of our world.
As individuals
from nursing, religion, social work, medicine, and other
therapeutic fields feel the call to Health Ministries,
they are in a position to lead and challenge faith communities
to reengage this historical ministry. Rooted in faith,
Health Ministries provide a model for embracing the healing
ministry of the Church. It is an inclusive ministry that
goes beyond the four walls of any local parish or congregation
and reaches deep into the needs of the community at large.
The
Health Ministries Certificate Program offered by
the Wayne E. Oates Institute is for anyone who
senses a call to Health Ministries. The program
is designed to empower, equip, and encourage participants
and utilizes an approach that is convenient for
busy individuals who need to remain involved in
their family lives and their work. The Institute
offers a blended approach that combines a traditional
face-to-face study environment (a 36 hour retreat)
with Internet study accessible from any computer.
It is a dynamic interactive process that connects
participants, faculty, facilitators, and resources.
The
Health Ministries Certificate Program has been
developed by experienced multidisciplinary practitioners
who have integrated their faith and practice
and are committed to collaborative care for the
whole person. Through written curriculum and
reflective peer interaction, participants will
be grounded in the unique practice of Health
Ministries. |
