Certificate Requirements

To earn the Health Ministries Certificate, you must complete a total of 138 Contact Hours (132 of the hours are completed online in a collegial environment that does not require you to travel.) You will complete these contact hours with the following:

  • 6 contact hours during a three-day retreat in Louisville, Kentucky

  • 36 contact hours of Health Ministries core seminars online
  • 36 contact hours of online elective seminars
  • 60 contact hours of Peer Group Practicum with online peer group interaction utilizing supervised case study and personal reflection on each participant's concurrent field experience.

By utilizing a blended approach that includes online Connected Learning, participants can complete this Certificate Program in a one year period. Upon completion of the Certificate Program, each participant will be invited to attend the Oates Institute's Annual Gathering and Oates Award Dinner where they will be awarded the Certificate in Health Ministries.

Most applicants will be admitted each September with the face-to-face retreat in Louisville, Kentucky. It is possible to enter the program at another time of year by beginning with the three elective seminars. However, it is necessary to first go through the application and approval process before the electives will count toward completion of the certificate.
