Care
at the End of Life
12.0 contact hours / Facilitator:
TBA
Providing
care for persons at the end of life requires a variety
of special considerations. This seminar, featuring
presentations by bioethicist Paul Simmons and hospice
chaplain Jim England, explores issues related to hope
and healing in hospice, pain and suffering, and aging
and human dignity.
Dreams,
Journals, and Spirituality --
12.0
contact hours / Presenter:
Alan Filippi, M.Div., BCC.
Dreams
reveal so much to us if we give them a
chance. They reveal the forgotten depths
of the human being and even give us glimpses
of a spiritual world that surrounds one
as totally as the physical one.
We
will playfully interact with the dream and
one another through the three weeks and hopefully
have stimulated you to work with the dream
further after this module has ended. They
may raise some initial questions at the outset
and that is also welcomed.
Encountering
Depression and Anxiety in Ministry
12.0
contact hours / Presenter:
Vicki Hollon,
D.Min.
Religious leaders
are not immune to depression and
anxiety; however, it may be more
difficult for religious leaders
to admit to themselves or others
that they suffer from either. This
seminar is not only for the direct
benefit of the religious leaders,
it is also for those they serve. It
is designed to help ministers recognize
symptoms of clinical depression
and anxiety in order to more wisely
give care to others and make appropriate
referrals as needed.

Hope
and Wholeness --
12.0
contact hours / Facilitator:
TBA
We
have learned that hope can contribute significantly
to one's sense of wholeness and well-being. This
seminar provides the opportunity to participate
in an interdisciplinary collaborative learning
experience. Using email, members of the seminar
group explore the role of hope through reflective
dialogue around presentations by Myron Madden,
Howard Clinebell, and Kay Shurden in light
of their own experience and context. Through
this process the group benefits by learning
from one another as well as from the presentations.
WEOI
members free / non-member $90
(limited to 12 participants)
Receiving
the Gifts of Aging
12.0 contact hours / Facilitator:
Cindy McNutt-Kaestner
"Most
of the time we dwell on the losses and multitude
of sufferings that accompany old age, rather
than the new gifts aging can bring," observes
Dr. Jane Thibault, Clinical Gerontologist
with the University of Louisville School
of Medicine. There are numerous aging issues
that need to be proactively addressed in
the congregational, healthcare, or community
setting that are going unconsidered. The gifts and opportunities
that come with aging are among these.
When
Religion Gets Sick --
12.0
contact hours / Presenter:

In When
Religion Gets Sick, widely regarded as one
of the classics written by Dr. Wayne Oates, "sick
religion" is defined as one that "hinders
the basic functions of life." In this book
he uses a case history method for exploring religious
pathology and addressing such questions as:
Through
interdisciplinary, reflective peer group dialogue,
participants in this seminar will review several
chapters from this book and reflect on the meaning
and consequences of "sick religion" in
light of their own experience and context.
