2017 Oates Awards Recap

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The 2017 Oates Institute Awards Gathering brought together our community of supporters, students, and friends to celebrate “Spirituality, Faith Journeys and the Arts” as we honored five deserving individuals, including jazz pianist Harry Pickens. The evening was hosted by Louisville radio personality Susan Sweeney Crum and was held at Deer Park Baptist Church in Louisville.

We’d like to welcome Dr. Peter Buecher, MD’s new business, Metamynd, as a co-sponsor of the event and Louisville Public Media for their generous partnership with the Oates Institute. We’d also like to thank contributors to the silent auction:  John Sanders, Toy Alice Ritchey, Clarence Barton, Elaine Akin, Janis Hamblin, Becky Flynn, L.Ac / 5 Elephants Acupuncture.com and Brenda Underwood.

We’d also like to thank Aaron Black and Nancy Fuller for the beautiful flowers, Deer Park Baptist Church for the use of the facilities, and Susan Sweeney Crum, our MC. Special thanks go to Andy Rawls for recording the event, and taking some many wonderful pictures.

In addition to Pickens, who also performed at the event (check out our recordings below), the Oates Institute honored the following individuals:

  • Outstanding Pastoral Leadership – Rev. Dr. David Platt, Pastor, Deer Park Baptist Church
  • Spiritual/Pastoral Care Service Honor – Chaplain Bob Cunningham, Chaplain, Norton Suburban Hospital
  • Outstanding Facilitator – Chaplain Dina Carroll, Chaplain, Hosparus
  • Outstanding Board Member – Elaine Akin
